THE Government should fund the judiciary adequately so that it does not depend on donor funds to promote justice, the Chief Justice, Benjamin Odoki, has said.

He stressed the need for the Judiciary to embrace modern technology.

“It should develop a policy on information communication technology (ICT) that will ensure timely adjudication and efficient dispensing of justice,” Odoki said.

He was speaking during the launch of ICT initiatives meant for the Judiciary ICT policy, intranet and strategy at Imperial Hotel in Kampala last week.

Odoki commended the Danish International Development Agency for designing the initiatives and praised the Government for the national master communication technology plan, which will ensure efficiency in government departments up to the district level.

“I acknowledge the Government’s communication technology master plan, which ensures good governance and timely access to information and efficient applications,” he pointed out.

Odoki noted that the launch of the strategy is one of the many demonstrations of the judiciary’s commitment to provide quality, timely and cost effective service delivery.

He said implementation of ICT applications and services will enable sharing of information by the justice law and order sector.

Odoki explained that it will also help build the national data transformation backbone and e-governance.
