Mutambuka Road is wide enough

EDITOR—Mutambuka Road was wide enough in the early 1980s and was the talk of Kabale town. During the Obote administration, there were houses along this road. Prominent doctors, engineers, lawyers, professors and business people lived on this road. This is because it was a very beautiful road.

One could easily see one’s reflection on the shiny tarmac, especially on a rainy day! Children like me, then in primary school, dreamt of staying in a house on this famed road.

The beautiful flowers on the road-sides filled the air with fragrance while the magnificent white houses had compounds filled with graceful trees, swaying in the cold. Alas! In the 90s nobody wanted to be anywhere near Mutambuka Road. Why? Huge potholes had turned the road into a cattle track.

However, the authorities have finally remembered to take action but their plan is is not convincing. The contractors and town administrators, are planning to widen the road, but that means destroying the beautiful fences, compounds, flowers and trees. This action is unnecessary.

Mutambuka Road is wide enough unless the contractors want to make a quick buck! All that needs to be done is re-tarmacking it so that it can gain its lost glory.
