WHEN Pablo, real names Kenneth Kimuli, wed Karen Hashaya last Saturday at Golf Course Hotel, it raised several eyebrows among the guests. Pablo and Karen are both committed members of Watoto Church yet wedded at a hotel poolside.

They also wielded the power to bring Pastor Garry Skinner to join the two in marriage, with retired Bishop Cyprian Bamwoze in the audience. Invitation cards were cross-checked with the guest list!

Perhaps, the choice of venue was because this was a celebrity wedding. Pablo is the Stand Up Uganda winner and a regular comedian while Hashaya is a former Miss Uganda contestant and artiste (poet and musician) among many other credentials.

Or was it that unsubstantiated rumour about one of the parties having been engaged to someone else once upon a time? Whatever it was, all fears were quelled when “two became one”.

The bridesmaids, especially those in glittering red, at one point turned more heads than anyone else. A seemingly impatient Pablo (he kept on wiping his face) was at first panicky and seemed to only take control of all hi senses when the bride made an entrance with her father in tow.

It is not often that we witness a wedding of a celebrated comedian. The hotel staff were stunned and spent more time watching the proceedings that on their regular jobs. The invitation card described it as a “fun wedding”.

And if Pablo has set the precedent, others weddings will predictably have lots of laughter. The MC provided just that. And since Stand Up comedian can hardly hold on to his seat for so long, Pablo at one time simply stood up and danced to the music.

When he was joined by Hannington Bugingo on the dance floor, the DJ must have assumed the ceremony was going out of control and switched off the music.

After the guests were served with drinks and a cake, all moved to Capitol Hill Palace Hotel in Naguru for the reception.
