NOMINATIONS for Iganga district local councillors yesterday were marred by confusion as most nominees had not yet deposited the mandatory fee.

Several politicians had to wait for hours in the district council hall as their agents rushed around to pay the cash. Others had not yet attained the required 220 voter signatures.

They blamed the electoral commission of failing to tell where to pay the nomination fee in time.

Alex Kiwanuka, the DP mayoral aspirant, criticised the electoral officials over spending more time on what he called useless issues.

“They kept us here the entire day yesterday and did not mention anything about where to pay. We came with the money in cash.”

Saadi Saleh explained that he had been tasked to bank the nomination fees of sh100,000 for a mayoral aspirant but had to go to Crane Bank, then to municipal council office before being referred to the district cash office.

Rose Musana, nominated as Busembatia town councillor, had to wait for 30 minutes before her agents arrived with the mandatory payment receipts.

“I am not yet ready,” she kept telling the officials who kept calling out her name for the nomination.
