SIR— Several Reform Agenda activists have been picked up by security officers. Leaders of Reform Agenda have vehemently denied charges that they are involved in subversive activities. But it is quite perplexing how these leaders can speak on behalf of 2.5 million people (those who voted Dr Kizza Besigye in 2001). It is possible that some elements of Reform Agenda could be involved in subversive activities. Besigye himself has declared that conditions for war are ripe in Uganda today. Therefore, instead of these Reform Agenda leaders denying, they should quietly urge their friends to refrain from these illegal activities. There are reports that Kyakabale’s rebels are roaming freely in the jungles of DRC, some occupying areas once occupied by the Rwanda Patriotic Army. Their Uganda Swahili is easily distinguishable, plus their use of Luganda and Runyankole.
However, two wrongs don’t make a right! Suspects should be produced before the courts of law within 48 hours, as the Constitution states, instead of holding them incommunicado.
We have had enough wars. Let us learn to handle our political differences in a civilised way, not through war, whenever we lose elections
