Kampala’s potholes and blocked drainage will require billions to be repaired.

The Minister of Works, John Nasasira, recently. appealed to the central Government to increase his ministry’s budget to fix the roads, especially in Kampala.

“Kampala has many potholes and blocked drainage,” he said, adding that the ministry would need over sh200b to work on them in the next financial year.

“We have little money but many roads. We shall sit with the central Government and Kampala City Council to see what to do about our roads,” he said.

Nasasira also called upon local council leaders to use the 25 percent funds to refurbish the small roads in their areas instead of waiting for the Government.

“The Government can’t reach all places. These LCs should put in more effort to rehabilitate the roads,” he said.

The chairman sessional committee on works, housing and communications, Nathan Byanyima, warned engineers against relaxing and told them to seriously supervise the roads being constructed.

“You have relaxed enough, it’s now time to work,” he said.

Byanyima also blamed the ministry drivers for using Government lorries for private business.
