The Inspector General of Government (IGG) is investigating allegations by the Luweero District Engineer, Nicholas Jjemba, that he was coerced into buying a campaign vehicle for the LC5 chairman, Hajji Abdul Nadduli, during the 2001 LC elections.

A five-man team from Jotham Tumwesigye’s office arrived in the district early this week to investigate the controversial Nissan double-cabin pick-up truck UAA 675N, which Jjemba claims to have bought for Nadduli.

The team is to meet Nadduli, the RDC, Mugisha Muhwezi, and senior staff of the district Works department.

Jjemba, through his lawyers Sempebwa and Company Advocates, tendered to the IGG a hand- written chit which Luweero CAO Simon Mpiira allegedly wrote to him concerning the vehicle’s clearance.

According to a photocopy of the registration card, the car was registered in Mrs. Nadduli’s name and the first transfer was made on April 15, 2003.

Nadduli, who denies Jjemba’s allegations, told a meeting of road contractors at Luweero works yard on Friday that he bought the vehicle from his own money but sent Jjemba to buy it on his behalf.
