A Makerere University engineering lecturer and a Lungujja businessman have won a record sh35m in the longest running Sports Betting Africa jackpot that ended last week.

Soccer punter and electrical engineer Joseph Semanda, who had come close on several occasions before, finally got lucky last Saturday to claim the big jackpot that was unclaimed since November 2007.

Semanda who staked 874,800 shillings during the 12 Premiership soccer games last weekend, was thrilled, and said, “I have to thank SBA, my brains and the weather in Europe which helped me win this money.”

“I have been trying since 2007 but missing out closely.”

He actually got eight match results correct while four others were postponed due to unplayable pitches.
The jackpot started with an initial figure of 0.5m but swelled to sh21.1m on Saturday.

At the same time, Lungujja businessman Ernest Ssozi was the other jackpot winner, walking away with sh15.2m. He predicted a mixture of games in several European soccer leagues.

Ssozi said “I used very little money to win big”. He added “I placed the bet jokingly but I’m now a millionaire.”
These are the largest sums ever won at Sports Betting Africa.
