RAMATHAN Mutebi was teaching biology at Mamtaz Secondary School in Kawempe Division when his sister, Annet, broke the news of his excellent performance.

The students joined him in the excitement that drew the attention of other teachers.

Mutebi, 21, an orphan delayed going to school due to lack of fees.
He was always among the best five in school.

Although he did not consider passing a miracle, Mutebi expected to get 20 points and not the 24 points (1AABA) he scored in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics.

The maximum points a candidate can obtain in A’levels is 25.
He is grateful to Tole Nasssur Abdullah, his guardian who paid his fees.

He also thanks teachers of Kawempe Muslim school, under their umbrella organisation, UMEA Teachers’ Organisation, who sponsored him. Mutebi wants to study pharmacy and research on HIV/AIDS vaccines and drugs.

“Looking at the ailing HIV patients, those who have died and the agony left behind with the family members and friends makes me believe that one day I will be able to get the cure to the deadly disease,” he said.

Since completing his O’levels, he has been working part time at Vision Laboratory in Kazo. Mutebi encourages parents to invest in educating their children. He also advises students to work hard to excel.
