Injuries strip Bunamwaya of key players

INJURY-STRICKEN Bunamwaya SC hosts Boroboro at Nakivubo today as the Uganda Super League resumes after a two-week break.

Coach Jackson Mayanja will be without dependable central defenders Derrick Walulya, Julius Mulindwa and inspirational teenage midfielder Mike Mutyaba.

The players got injured during their 2-0 Kakungulu Cup semifinal first leg defeat to SC Villa on Sunday.

Andy Ssali and Walulya struck in Bunamwaya’s 2-0 win over Victors late last month at Nakivubo.

Another defender Edward Ssali and striker Yuda Mugalu are still out and Mayanja, sounding distressed, said that he was trying out options for them.

“I’m looking at Ayub Kisaliita to take Walulya’s role because (team captain Robert) Kimuli is too short in central defence,” Mayanja explained yesterday.

But Denis Kizito, who gave Bunamwaya maximum points in the 1-0 win over Boroboro in Lira, is still Mayanja’s hope going into today’s encounter.

Boroboro are coming off a 2-2 draw against Kakungulu Cup holders Victors, while Bunamwaya overcame Sharing 3-0 in the teams’ latest league encounters.

The Super league committee has postponed Friday’s games involving champions KCC, Villa and URA to give the national team time to prepare for the friendly match against Malawi on Saturday.
