Students plead over results
KABALE-Over 500 former students of the National Teachers’ College have petitioned the parliamentary committee on social services and the education ministry over Kyambogo University’s delay to release their results and transcripts for the year 2007. On Friday, the former students held a meeting at the college in Kabale town to dicuss the issue. John Osco Ngabo, the coordinator and a former guild president, said the delay had affected their chances of getting employment and going for further studies.

35 admitted over cholera
KASESE-The cholera outbreak in Bwera zone has worsened with 35 cases admitted at Bwera Hospital between May 29 and 31. Hospital administrator Pedson Buthalha on Sunday said: “The situation is now beyond the capacity of my jurisdiction. It needs the district, if not national attention.” He, however, said no one had died yet. Red Cross volunteers and nurses attending to the victims said politicians were frustrating their efforts to curb the spread of the disease. They said they had advised vendors to stop selling cooked food on the roadside, but politicians were telling them to continue.

Defiler gets 5 years in jail
FORTPORTAL-The High Court, presided over by Justice Dan Kiiza Akiiki, has sentenced a man to five years imprisonment for defiling an 8-years-old girl. Prosecution said Robert Tunanukye, 18, found the girl going to the well on August 21, 2007, at Kigoto village in Kamwenge district, and defiled her. He then tried to compensate her family with sh500,000.
