KCC FC captain Sam Mubiru has been kicked out of the club.

Mubiru was the most high profile victim as coach Sam Ssimbwa started a crackdown on what he called indiscipline and lack of commitment.

The former captain was fired alongside goalkeeper Karim Kamyuka and defender Ausi Kaaya as Ssimbwa swung the axe yesterday.

Ssimbwa vowed to discipline the players, who were not committed to training when he took over as KCC tactician a fortnight ago.

“Mubiru feels bigger than the club but he is not. He was dropped because he was irregular in training. No one, not even myself is indispensable. His (Mubiru) attitude has changed so much and I don’t like individuals but good players,” Ssimbwa stressed after training at Lugogo yesterday. The trio, who were expected to ink new deals with the club after the expiry of their contracts, were not available for comment yesterday and their cell phones were switched off.

The entire KCC squad that former George Nsimbe used to win the 2007 Uganda Super League have either joined other clubs or been axed. Charles Semanda, Tommy Okello, Ronald Kamoga and Asuman Buyinza are the only survivors. But Kamoga is yet to turn up for training because he is recovering from a minor surgery.

Ssimbwa’s new recruits include veteran Morley Bwekwaso (Express), Bruno Olobo (Police), Francis Oringa (Boroboro), former SC Villa goalkeeper Yasin Mugabi and Bernard Luyigga from relegated Sharing FC.

These are part of more than 20 others undergoing trials at the club. He hopes to pick his final squad and present it to club officials for endorsement on Tuesday.

Ssimbwa was all praises for Byekwaso, whom he said that despite being on and off the pitch with naging injuries, was still capable of performing well.

“I was with Morley in Attraco (Rwanda) and he helped me a lot. He can still do it unless he is injured again,” Ssimbwa said shortly after training.
