The Maama Tendo Foundation and Comfortmum International have launched a blouse for breastfeeding mothers.

The blouse, dubbed ‘comfortmum’, is a new innovation. It has an inbuilt nursing bra with a small hole to expose nipples.

Comfortmum International chief Sheila Nakabito said the blouse comes in different sizes and designs to enable mothers breastfeed at any time anywhere. It costs about sh50,000.

Nakabito, a mother of three, said the blouse was designed to support and cover most of the flesh around the breast enabling mothers to breastfeed with ease, privacy, convenience and comfort.

“It is a challenge to breastfeed in public, yet the baby’s demands are unexpected,” she said.

The launch coincided with the awarding of gifts to winners of the breastfeeding campaign that the foundation organised in August with The New Vision.

About 100 mothers participated in the campaign that involved writing stories about their experience of breastfeeding as a way of encouraging others.

The stories have been running every Tuesday in the Woman Vision pullout. The winners were given a cash prize of sh150,000 each and a comfortmum bag, T-shirt, a packet of pampers and baby wipes.

Speaking at the launch at the Sheraton Hotel on Friday, the Uganda Revenue Authority chief, Allen Kagina, said breastfeeding was an honour bestowed on women by God, adding that women should never get embarrassed to breastfeed.

The New Vision deputy editor-in-chief, Barbara Kaija, thanked the Maama Tendo Foundation for its commitment towards women issues.
