COURT has allowed the prosecution to re-open its case against Kitgum Woman MP Beatrice Anywar, Makindye West MP Hussein Kyanjo and 26 others accused of participating in the Mabira riot.

Buganda Road Court Chief Magistrate Vincent Mugabo re-opened the trial after state attorney Caroline Nabaasa amended the charges.

Nabaasa amended the charge to include inciting violence against Anywar.
In August, the court closed the case and directed that no more witnesses should be called to testify.

Five witnesses, including Criminal Investigation Director director Edward Ochom, had testified.

Prosecution said on April 12, 2007, during the demonstration on Nasser Road in Kampala, Anywar defied Police directives and encouraged demonstrators to assault officers, and to destroy property.

The protesters were demonstrating against the planned give-away of part of the Mabira Forest for sugar cane growing. During the fracas, an Indian man was beaten to death by the mobs that ravaged the city.

Other suspects include the Director of the National Association of Professional Enviromentalists, Frank Muramuzi, DP supporter Fred Mukasa Mbidde and former Rubaga South MP John Ken Lukyamuzi. Mugabo adjourned the case to November 5 for mention.
