UGANDA Olympic committee UOC president Roger Ddungu’s interest in the ANOCA Zone V top seat has been revived by the cancellation of the zonal elections by the continental body.

Ddungu was nominated to stand against Sudanese Gen. Salah Mohamed in the elections that took place in September in Nairobi. He however stood down after a number of member countries queried Mohamed’s standing without getting a backing from his national association as required.

Mohammed went on to be elected despite a boycott by nine of the eleven member countries. They petitioned the continental body for intervention.

The decision to cancel the elections was communicated during the Africa secretary generals’ meeting over the weekend in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.

“They said that they will communicate the new election date after the festive season,” said UOC secretary Peninah Kabenge, who attended the meeting.

The meeting also discussed how to improve the efficiency of the committee’s secretariat and were concerned with most Olympic committees not using their Olympic solidarity budgets.
