Rutooma couple mark 56th anniversary

THOMAS Kayangire, 83, and his wife Mirieri, 73 of Rutooma village in Mbarara district have celebrated 56 years of marriage. The ceremony, held on Sunday, was attended by President Yoweri Museveni and his wife Janet.

THOMAS Kayangire, 83, and his wife Mirieri, 73 of Rutooma village in Mbarara district have celebrated 56 years of marriage.

The ceremony, held on Sunday, was attended by President Yoweri Museveni and his wife Janet.

Museveni disclosed that thanksgivings and anniversary celebrations were necessary in society, saying the speeches delivered educate the youth.
He hailed the elders of Rutooma who permitted their children to join him in the liberation war.

“I want to thank the people of Rutooma who allowed their children to join me in the struggle. They gave us strong support. The prevailing peace Ugandans are enjoying today came out of their efforts.”

Museveni said Kayangire was a hard-working man.

The President gave him an envelope of money, saying it was worth three friesian cows. Kayangire worked as a veterinary officer and a Policeman.
Museveni also promised to take him to Kisozi to give him another cow.
