EDITOR—When I hear people in this country analysing and blaming politicians in Africa in general, I get worried. This is because they are missing the point. Go to your village, sub-county, county, and district and analyse their problems in the area of your expertise.

Study possible solutions, and implement the solutions and see what works. After that, you will qualify to analyse the problems and possible solutions for Uganda and the East African region.

There are examples from North America, Europe and Asia. The so-called Asian Tigers we admire thought through their ideas and intentions, and did what helped them. They embraced freedom and rejected much of what the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund dictated. They are now prospering. There are few organisations which have good intentions. A local example of an organisation which seems to have good intentions is Kulika.

Kulika is working at educating Ugandans and they also put genuine effort in improving the lives of the rural poor.

Having said this, there seems to be no sincere effort to fight poverty in this country!
