KAMPALA University has began offering Masters and PhD programmes.

The university’s founder and vice-chancellor, Prof. Badru Kateregga, said seven programmes would be taught at the School of Graduate Studies.

They are business and management, computing and information technology, public health, economics, education, arts and social sciences, and environmental sciences.

Kateregga was speaking during the university’s sixth graduation ceremony in Ggaba, Kampala on Thursday.

“The university council has approved the courses. They will be availed through contact levels, distance and e-learning,” he said.

A total of 1,022 students, 479 of whom were female, received certificates, diplomas and degrees. The function also doubled as the university’s 10th anniversary.

The Vice-President, Prof. Gilbert Bukenya, commended the university for developing in a short time.

In a speech read by higher education state minister, Gabriel Opio, Bukenya urged universities to cooperate with the national council for higher education to ensure provision of quality education.

“The Government will not permit institutions that fall below the expected standards,” Bukenya said.

The chancellor, Prof. Edward Rugumayo, urged graduands to be creative and start their own jobs instead of toiling in search of jobs.
