There lived a family of Mr. and Mrs. Miiti. Mr. Miiti had been sick for a long time. Sometimes he did not even have the strength to ride his bicycle.

He later died. After his burial, his children went back to school. They were in Universal Primary Education schools.

While at school, Kula was chased away by his friends because his relatives were saying that their father had died of AIDS. They thought Kula also had AIDS.

When they went back home, their mother told them that they had no money to buy food. So Adelu and her brothers had to stay home as their mother went to look for food. After afew days, Mrs.

Miiti fell sick and she was hospitalised. When she was in hospital, her children wondered why their relatives were not visiting their mother.

After a week, their uncle Kisoro came to visit. He was welcomed and given a warm greeting. On his way back home, he asked Mrs. Miiti whether he could take the animals and look after them but they refused and he was very angry.

At Adelu’s school there was a competition of writing poems. Adelu wrote a nice poem which made some people cry. Whenever there was an occasion, Adelu would recite her poem. It was also aired on radio.

So Adelu and her family got help from the community. But their uncle Kisoro came back for the animals.

That night, Adelu asked her brother to take the animals to the nearby kraal early in the morning so that uncle Kisoro does not take them.

In the morning, uncle Kisoro asked for the animals and Adelu said she didn’t know anything. Adelu later ran to their area chairperson to let him know what her uncle was planning to do.

The chairperson promised to help her. Uncle Kisoro was warned not to come back or else he would be arrested.
