ASK THE EXPERTS

I am planning to do a diploma in travel and tourism management at YMCA Kampala. Will I be marketable after taking this course from that institution? Is there any other better institution I could consider for the same course? Brian- Entebbe...

Dear Brian,
Having opened in 1961, YMCA is probably among the oldest institutions in the country. Before you can enroll there, check to find out if this institution is recognised by the National Council for Higher Education. Arthur Muguzi, from the Council advises that before picking an admission letter, ask for a certificate or any documents that prove if this institute is recognised. If the institute is not recognised, this may always hamper your career opportunities and chances for further studies. Be careful therefore in your search for any such course.

Makerere University Business School has one of the most comprehensive programmes in this field. It offers various courses in the Faculty of Marketing and Hospitality Management . A three year degree bachelor of travel and tourism management degree at sh 850,000 every semester. Related courses are offered at Kampala University (diploma in leisure tourism and hotel management), at the Uganda Wildlife Training Institute in Kasese and The Crested Crane Hotel and Tourism Training Centre in Jinja.
