SIR, I am an arts student and I did hotel management at a diploma level. However, I would like to do a different course. Among those I thought of are human nutrition or purchasing and supply. I would like to know what these courses entail and the opportunities they offer. I would also like to know whether there is any other alternative course that would fit me better.

Dear WG,
Your question leaves out vital information. You, for instance, do not say where you attained your diploma from. I hope that the institute you attended is among those that are recognised by the National Council for Higher Education.

Attending an institution that is not recognised may thwart your efforts to upgrade and find a good job. You also do not indicate why you want to change from hotel management to human nutrition and or purchasing and supply. I reckon you have not made up your mind about a few things, not least, your career goal.

Hotel management, human nutrition and purchasing and supply are three completely different courses leading to different career prospects.
Hotel management is an arts course that prepares individuals for careers in leisure, tourism and hospitality management business.

Human nutrition, on the other hand, is a science course. It encompasses all aspects of an organism’s interaction with food. It includes biochemical, physiological, molecular, psychological, and cultural aspects of food choice and nutrient metabolism.

As an arts student, you do not qualify to study this course.
Purchasing and supply is a business-related course. It covers areas such as logistics, international purchasing, quantitative skills, accountancy, statistics, human resource management and principals of marketing, among other disciplines. Purchasing and supply graduates work as logistics officers, marketing managers and many other positions.

Each of these courses is unique and has its own benefits. They are not related.

Before you decide to take any, consider your talents and passion. Then look at your subject combinations and work out which courses are related to the subjects you studied. Be careful not to just pick on any courses without knowing what they are about.

It would be important if you mastered your objectives in life before you make any serious career decisions.
Good Luck
