MBARARA - Plans to form a new diocese in Ankole are in final stages, the West Ankole diocese Bishop has revealed. The Rt. Rev. Yona Mwesigwa Katonene said the diocese, which will have its headquarters in Ntungamo, will be carved out of West Ankole and Ankole dioceses.
The Bishop told a meeting of bishops at Bweranyangi Girls’ School in Bushenyi on Wednesday, that they were still setting up a committee to nominate a bishop.
Katonene requested the bishops to mandate a council to appoint a committee which can work on the modalities and get them approved by the relevant diocesan organs.
He said the request for a new diocese was first made in the 1990s.
