CHOGM centre gets wireless LAN

THE internal affairs ministry has received a wireless Local Area Network (LAN) and Internet with a capacity of 2MB per second.

THE internal affairs ministry has received a wireless Local Area Network (LAN) and Internet with a capacity of 2MB per second.

“The deployment of this LAN and Internet access to the secretariat will enable the ministry have fast Internet speeds and instant access points anywhere in the building so that visiting dignitaries can connect easily,” Hans Paulsen uganda telecom’s chief commercial officer said.

The service is provided by Uganda telecom.The Ministry of Internal Affairs is the designated command and control center for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM). Previously, the ministry only had about 128kb, which is insufficient for such an institution. The new technology was installed at a cost of sh140m.

Ambassador James Mugume, the ministry’s permanent secretary, said CHOGM had helped the country acquire infrastructure by pushing service providers to move faster.

“This is going to bring in more conferences that will use these services,” he said.
