What is releasing ‘water’ during sex?

Dec 09, 2007

THERE are two possibilities. One is lubrication of the vagina during sex. Sex involves a lot of friction between the vagina and the penis. The woman normally produces vaginal secretions as lube to reduce the friction. Different women produce differing amounts of lube, some more than others.

Dear Doctor,
What do people mean when they say that a woman must release some water during sex? A friend of mine says she has never seen this water and her boyfriend is wondering if she is normal.

Dear DA,

Another possibility is ‘female ejaculation’. A few women release some ‘water’ after orgasm. It is a sign of satisfaction. However, even women who do not ejaculate are normal and have normal sex lives.

If your friend is enjoying her sex life without any pain, it is likely there is nothing wrong with her. We do not respond the same way during sex.
