Badminton stars headed for Open

UGANDA’S team for the Africa Youth badminton championships will have their final test in the Computer Point Open starting Friday at Sharing Hall, Nsambya.

UGANDA’S team for the Africa Youth badminton championships will have their final test in the Computer Point Open starting Friday at Sharing Hall, Nsambya.

The tournament was launched by Computer Point managing director Anil Kuruvilla at the company offices on Kafu Road, Kampala yesterday.

Kurvilla handed over sh5m to the association’s secretary Eric Byarugaba to cater for the cash prizes of the open category, trophies and other requirements.

The Africa championship-bound quartet of Herbert Ebayo, Daisy Nakalyango, Ian Senoga and Shamim Bangi are all lined-up to feature in the Nsambya event as a way of preparing themselves for the continental championship.

The African event is due in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia August 2-9. Housing Finance has already bought the team return tickets worth sh8m.

Over 300 players are set to compete in the weekend event which will see has events both in the age and open category.

Kuruvilla said that they had decided to join badminton as a humble way of trying to make the sport more popular.
