DICK Katende has turned down an offer by the Uganda Amateur Boxing Federation (UABF) to train the national team Bombers, reports Johnson Were.

UABF executive headed by Godfrey Nyakana early this month appointed Katende, together with Charles Lubulwa, to train the Bombers in preparation for the President’s Cup due in Taipei, China December 3-14.

“I’m so busy that I cannot handle the assignment. I will communicate to the federation executive and recommend Lubulwa to continue with duty,” Katende said.

“It’s all about commanding respect from the boys, motivation and building confidence to inspire them, which I think Lubulwa can do,” the former Africa middleweight champion added.

Katende, a former national coach, ruled out any politics as a reason for his refusal to take up the job.

“My decision is not in bad faith. I don’t want to commit myself to the job when I don’t have time to offer the best service,” he explained.

Yesterday Nyakana joined Lubulwa and Patrick Lihanda in a training session in which he took the Bombers through tactics and drills at their training base at sports authority NCS Lugogo headquarters.
