THE Minister of Trade Tourism and Industry, Kahinda Otafiire, has urged the people of Isingiro district to transform their businesses by getting loans.

“Time has come for you to change your lives, make use of the loan facilities at dfcu bank. Many people fear loans but this the only way you can expand your economic resources,” Otafiire said.

The minister was on Saturday officiating at the launch of the dfcu Bank in the district, the first bank in the new district. “I congratulate the board of directors upon their decision to implement an expansion programME aimed at increasing the bank’s points of representation and therefore delivery of financial services to the public,” he said.

The Government, he said, recognises the importance of the financial sector in the growth of the economy and has put in place policies to enhance the growth and strength of this sector.

The Government continues to encourage more banks to expand their operations outside Kampala, he added. “Since the start of the decentralisation programme, a lot of money has moved out of Kampala to the districts. So it is in the districts where the money is,” he said.

Otafiire urged residents to desist from keeping cash at home or on themselves. “What if you get arrested or thieves waylay you?” he asked.

He challenged the area MPs to identify three small-scale sustainable industries in their constituencies and forward them to his ministry for possible support.

Juma Kisaame, the bank’s managing director, welcomed business people in the district to approach the bank with business plans and access loans.
