APART from the health benefits and enjoyment, maintaining your carpet clean helps you save money.

How often you need to clean your carpet depends on whether you remove shoes in the house, vacuum it, plus environmental factors like dusty yards and whether you have children.

Everyone knows what to do to clean a carpet.

When it comes to maintaining your carpet clean, regular vacuuming is one of the most effective ways of keeping it free of loose dirt.

A vacuum cleaner is the tool that will help you achieve the desired cleanliness.

It sucks up dust and dirt from your carpet.

Start by inspecting the area you intend to vacuum and pick up all objects like straw, string and thread that can trap debris in the vacuum hose causing it to block.

Also remember to check your vacuum bag to ensure it is empty.

Get down to clean the carpet by making forward strokes to ensure you get out all the dirt and residue.

Occasional changing of your vacuuming direction helps to reduce matting in your carpet.

When removing litter on carpets, use a lightweight vacuum cleaner and for cleaning deep into the carpet, use an upright vacuum and a power brush.

While purchasing a vacuum cleaner, consider one with a rotating brush that loosens dirt in the carpet and then sucks it up.

To maintain the cleanliness of your carpet, consider taking off your shoes before stepping on it and putting a mat outside at the front door and a rug inside the entrance.

This will help you catch some of the dirt that comes in before it makes it to the carpet.
