SINGING contests are known for giving birth to artistes like Blu*3, who won the Coca Cola Pop Stars contest in 2005. Now, the Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) is launching the ‘IOC Sport and Singing Contest’.

To be eligible for the contest, one should be a Ugandan national; the songs entered should be original and free from any third party rights. All songs should be sports-inspired, in line with the contest theme, ‘Sport and Olympism’.

According to a statement from UOC, the songs can either be performed live by one to 12 people or can be prerecorded.
The contest will be held in two phases: the national phase, which will be held in March and the international phase, which will run between April 15 and July 1.

Several awards will be presented at the national level, while the winner at the international level will win up to $15,000 (about sh25.5m) plus an invitation to perform at this year’s Olympic games in Beijing, China this August.

The first and second runners-up will get $10,000 and $5,000 respectively. The deadline for registration is January 31.
