THEIR goal was to raise money for charity. And they did through a charity concert at the new Imperial Royale Hotel, Kampala. The beneficiary was Nyaka AIDS Foundation, a Kanungu-based charity NGO. By the end of the show, about sh5m was raised in cash, while more was pledged.

Jamaican gospel sensation Kay Morris graced the stage, along with Uganda’s Ngoni, Sandra Kirigirwa, Herbert Kinobe and Sarah Ndagire.

Unfortunately, benefit concerts often tend to frustrate the laws of music practicality. With an almost disastrous sound system, everything looked tentative, until Morris’ appearance.

Exploring various musical genres, she stunned the audience with Down The River, then went into When You Cry, before closing with a hot dancehall track, Satan Lose The Battle.

But even with Morris’ success, fans still left with mixed feelings.
But if the concert’s goal was to sell expensive tickets (entrance was sh100,000), serve fans with a sumptuous meal (dinner was on the house) and give the media a reason to tell readers to attend the next concert (slated for January 9, 2009), then it was a success.
