JINJA district local government has allocated 85 acres of land for the construction of a general hospital in Buwenge sub-county, Kagoma county to increase the number of health facilities.
The hospital worth over sh26.6b ($1 7.5m) will be undertaken with a grant from the Chinese government.
The National vice chairperson of National Resistance Movement (NRM) for Eastern region, Capt. Mike Mukula said, the hospital will serve the districts of Jinja, Kamuli and Iganga.
“Jinja district local council debated and passed a resolution for the location of the hospital, which made President Museveni to direct health minister, Malinga to construct the hospital at Buwenge sub-county, Kagoma,†Mukula said.
He said the Government was committed to take services to the grassroots for the improvement in living standards and development of the rural poor.
Mukula urged the people to elect leaders who can work well with the Government to champion the various development projects.
He said the members of Parliament together with support from other donor communities, will distribute mosquito nets to people especially pregnant women to fight malaria.
Mukula urged the political leaders in Busoga to let go of their division in order to promote development
Jinja district director of health service, Dr. David Kitimbo said with the construction of the hospital in Buwenge, Jinja will have 70 health facilities and this will reduce the distance travelled by patients in search of healthcare to five kilometres.
Kitimbo urged the people to promote the programmes of immunisation for polio, measles and the fight against malaria and HIV/Aids.
Kitimbo said the shortage of staff, equipment and drug in major hospitals has affected the delivery of good health services to the population.
