Diseases related to poor hygiene like cholera are likely to break out at the Katuna border, if local leaders do not act very fast.
Many residents do not have toilets. They use polythene bags and dump the excreta in garbage pits.
“Most people dump their faeces in trenches, blocking the sewage system,”says Charles Namanya, a resident.

Meanwhile, the managers of Jaguar, GASO and Onatracom buses that ply the Kigali-Kampala routes have also complained of traffic jam at the border.
A security official at the border blamed the congestion on the tenderer whom he said had mismanaged the park.

The district administration has tendered the road to TWEBTEX Uganda at a fee of sh890,000 monthly. The company is also expected to charge trailers and vehicles that operate on the highway. But according to Bernard Twebaze, the director, the company is not making enough money from the venture.

Summy Odeke, the district police commander, says he will investigate the matter and collaborate with other district leaders to resolve the crisis.

The area LC3 chairman for Kamugaguzi Denis Nzeirwe, says the Government needs to construct a modern parking yard at the border to cut down on the congestion and traffic jam.
