Women, rise to the occasion

Editor — Today is International Women’s Day. Time and again we have heard women advocate for equal rights with men. On a sad note, opportunities for women come and go without some of them taking advantage of them.

Editor — Today is International Women’s Day. Time and again we have heard women advocate for equal rights with men. On a sad note, opportunities for women come and go without some of them taking advantage of them.

Look at the Makerere University guild elections, for example. The campaigns started earlier this week, but there is not one female candidate who has registered, out of the nine contestants so far. The outgoing guild president was a woman — Susan Abbo.

She was supported mostly by men. Why do women let opportunities like these go untapped. What then will they celebrate today?
