From a thugs’ meeting point

ONCE a bush area which was used as a link to and from the golf course side and neighbouring areas, Centenary Park, on Jinja Road, provided a good hiding place for thugs. But that was then. Today, the park is one of those places people yearn to go to, to relax, have good meals and be entertained.

The park is bustling with all sorts of activities – from bars, restaurants to children’s play fields and bridal provisions.

What perhaps makes it different from other city spots providing similar services is that it is set in an unrivalled serene environment and has scenic greenery, which renders it a more natural appeal.

The place is also spacious. Now that it is Easter season, a lot is expected here. Groups of people will be parting in different corners without any interferences from the others.

Sarah Kizito, the proprietor, says future plans include making the park a one-stop bridal centre – complete with a bridal showroom, studio, wedding cars and a florist.

“Under construction is a health club that will be equipped with a gym, beauty spa, swimming pool, conference hall and changing rooms. It will have just about everything our customers might need,” Kizito explains.

What looked like idol land was redeveloped into one of Kampala’s hot spots without antagonising the natural environment.
