KAMPALA will host this year’s Africa Zone 5 U-18 youth basketball championships qualifiers on June 19, according to Federation of Uganda Basketball Association (FUBA) president Ambrose Tashobya.

“We sent in our bid and the continental body allowed us to host the zonal qualifiers,” Tashobya said.

It will be the first time for a continental qualifier to come to Kampala after plans to stage the U-16 cadets’ championships were put off because of the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting (CHOGM) in Kampala last November.

Rwanda, Burundi, Kenya, DR Congo, Seychelles, Djibouti and Egypt will be sending teams to the Kampala competition. The top team in the round robin show will qualify for the finals due in Cairo, Egypt, in August
