Appointment overwhelms new High Court judge

Justice Irene Mulyagonja Kakooza has pledged to dispense justice faithfully. “I was overwhelmed by the appointment. The process of vetting judges by the Judicial Service Commission started in 2000. Every time a list of new judges came out, my name was not there, but this time, it was there,†Mulyagonja told the congregation at Makerere Hill Deliverance Church on Sunday.
Mulyagonja, who was among the 12 judges sworn in by President Yoweri Museveni on Friday, could not control the tears flowing down her cheeks.
“I cry a lot when I see children standing on a pulpit singing. I don’t know whether it is a weakness or strength.â€
She thanked the leaders of Deliverance Church for nurturing and mentoring.
“Being a judge is about mediating between people in pain. May Jesus help me carry out true justice,†she said.
Pastor Charles Obwana appealed to Mulyagonja to be the torch bearer in delivering justice.
The other judges sworn in included Joseph Murangira, Lawrence Gidudu, Simon
Byabakama-Mugenyi, Ralph Ochan, Elizabeth Musoke, John Wilson Kwesiga, Alphonse Owiny-Dolo, Benjamin Kabiito, Elizabeth Ibanda Nahamya and Anup Singh Choudry.
