Lt. Gen. Koreta’s father dies at 100

Yosia Nkoregamba, who was born in 1908, was laid to rest on Sunday at his home in Nyakayojo sub-county in Mbarara district.

Yosia Nkoregamba, who was born in 1908, was laid to rest on Sunday at his home in Nyakayojo sub-county in Mbarara district.
Nkoregamba was the father of the court martial chairman, Lt. Gen. Ivan Koreta. The 100-year-old was hailed as a consistent and persistent man. He passed away on Friday after bleeding in the brain.
“We are what we are because of our father Nkoregamba. He was honest and a perfectionist at work. We followed his advice and example, that is how we have managed to succeed in our work,†Koreta told mourners.
Defence minister Dr. Crispus Kiyonga delivered President Yoweri Museveni’s sh2m contribution towards the funeral expenses.
Ankole Bishop George Tibesigwa said proper hygiene had helped Nkoregamba to live for 100 years.
Nkoregamba has left seven children, 33 grand-children and 38 great grand-children. He joined school in 1920 at Ruharo, where he graduated as a church warden. He started working in 1924 as a secretary to Ankole Kingdom. He became a veterinary scout in Mbarara in 1925 and became the parish chief for Kajara in 1934.
He became Rubare sub-county chief in 1938, Nyamanyonyi sub-county in 1942 and Buwheju county in 1959. In 1963, he was moved to Bunyaruguru, where he retired in 1964.
