MASAKA-The High Court has sentenced a man to death for murdering his two wives. The resident judge, Vincent Kibuuka Musoke, ordered Stephen Turyamwijuka, 62, a Rwandan migrant to hang. Court had heard that Turyamwijuka, a resident of Mweruka village in Rakai district on May 27, 2005 murdered his wives, Dinah Kekigombe and Maurizio Bashabe, after a domestic row. That night, Turyamwijuka returned home drunk, strangled Kekigombe and hacked Bashabe with a panga.

Labourers get 35% pay rise
MUBENDE-Casual labourers in the town have a reason to smile after the town council raised their salaries by 35%. The mayor, Zziwa Kizito, said the raise would improve the welfare of the workers. “It will also motivate them to work better.” The employees had been receiving between 35,000 to 60,000 a month.

SPCs to check border crimes
RAKAI-The Police have recruited 32 Special Police Constables from Rakai and Isingiro districts to beef up security along the Uganda-Tanzania border. The exercise was conducted by the southern regional Police chief, Andrew Sorowen and the regional internal security officer, Lt. Emmanuel Musinguzi. Sorowen said cases of cattle theft, motorcycle robbery and smuggling were common at the border. “We want the border free from crime. We expect the SPCs to help the Police do a good job.”

Makubuya tips old students
LUWEERO-Form old students’ associations to mobilise funds to support school budgets, the Attorney General, Khiddu Makubuya, advised former students. “In the developed countries, every school has an old students association. This is a sign of civilisation,” he said on Sunday during a fundraising for Sempa Primary School in Katikamu county.
