EDITOR—On Sunday someone wrote a letter entitled “Quota system won’t benefit the poor!” The writer expresses disappointment with the quota system because university entry points have been rised to 15. It should be noted that performance improves every year and so do the numbers of students who get higher points.

It is therefore inevitable that the public universities have to rise the pass mark. If the marks are kept as low as 11 points, there may be over 40 students in a district qualifying for admission hence calling for a different criterion to select them.
