THE Police have arrested a suspected cannibal from Kyanamukaka in Masaka district, following the kidnap of a 14-year-old boy.

Vincent Muwawu, 50, of Bibaale village, was charged with kidnapping Paul Lubega, with intent to murder him.

The southern regional Police commander, Andrew Sorowen, said Muwawu’s wife, Jane Nakyatto, is the one who saved Lubega.

Nakyatto said she protested Lubega’s slaughter when Muwawu consulted her in the bush about it. The Police said she fled the village after forcing her husband to release Lubega. The boy said Nakyatto saved him because they come from the same village.

The Police said Mentedio Ssemalulu, Lubega’s father, had sent him to the shops to buy paraffin and soap on October 12, but returned at about midnight. “Lubega could not talk for two days, until October 14 when he revealed how he survived death,” Ssemalulu said.

Lubega said Muwawu had warned him not to reveal the matter.

However, Muwawu said the move to arrest him was hatched by Ssemalulu after they suspected him of falling in love with his neighbours’ wife, Babirye Mutebi. “This is a frame-up by Ssemalulu and Mutebi. They suspect me of having an affair Mutebi’s wife,”he said.
