TEENAGER Moses Kibet has promised to win another gold medal at the 2009 World Cross-Country championships in Amman, Jordan.

The 17-year old was speaking at a ceremony where he picked his utl/USPA Sports Personality of the Month award for October.

Kibet became the youngest runner to win the award so far, after Moses Kipsiro (January) and Benjamin Kiplagat (July), when he beat rally driver Ahmed Ashraf with 705 to 695 votes
Kibet received the award from uganda telecom public relations manager Mark Kaheru.

The ceremony was also attended by USPA officials at Rwenzori Courts yesterday.

“I’m grateful for this award. It is my first award after my first international gold medal. It means I can win another one when I bring gold from the world cross country next year. I’m working hard for it,” Kibet promised.

The youngster was nominated for winning gold in the 5000m race at the Commonwealth Youth Games in Pune, India last month.

Meanwhile, Norman Katende reports that the organisers of this year’s Hope Ward Charity Fun Run meant to raise funds for financially handicapped hospital patients are hoping for a bumper entry of 700 runners.

The MTN-sponsored run is due on Sunday and uses the same route as the 10km Kampala international marathon event. It will be a test for the participants ahead of the November 23 marathon which has attracted 10,000 runners.

The run raises funds for the Hope Ward patients at the International Hospital Kampala which extends free medical services to patients with complicated ailments but without the money to foot the bills.
