The most important attribute of furniture is the fact that it makes one comfortable as one relaxes. For many homes, it is like a rule to find a sofa set placed in the centre of the living room. It is on this set that most of the television-watching is done, writes Roger Mugisha.

However, the emergence of the love-seat couch, has taken home relaxing to another level. Kathleen Jefferson, an interior designer with Katch the Sun, says love-seat couches literally “take the load off one’s feet”.

“Designed to enable the relaxing of the whole body, the couch can be addictive. It is comfortable while watching TV and will instantly flip into a lounge bed by merely positioning cushions on one end of it.”

Kaleel Rahman, the general manager of Biplous Stores on Kampala road, says today many people are opting for love-seat couches.

“At Biplous, we have a new stock of love-seat couches from Syria that come in a variety of colours (green, blue, cream and mixed splashes), sizes and design. The couches go for between shl.5m and sh2.2m,” he explained.

When shopping for a love-seat couch, there are a few indicators that will guide you on your choice.

“Light coloured fabrics look good, but soil quickly, thus are not advisable for families with pets and young children,” advises Rahman.

He adds that when testing the quality of a love-seat, “Just like sofa sets, the heavier the couch the higher the quality of the frame. If the couch is light weight, it is likely that the frame is of an inferior quality.”
