Cricketers are shabby
Sir - I salute Uganda Cricket Association’s enthusiasm for trial matches especially in preparation for international engagements.
My concern however is how our players turn out for such trial matches. The last time I watched such a trial game at Lugogo I was shocked.

I found a shabby group of youths in yellow and red jerseys that seemed to have last seen water and soap a year earlier. The once white shoes were in no better state. Not only was the group shabby, but even their conduct seemed weird.

Gone seem to be the days when smartness and cleanliness before a game. were emphasised.

Cricketers used to be the envy of all other disciplines. Such smartness was always a factor in cultivating an organised breed of players not only on the oval, but also in real life.

I hope someone in UCA can remember that cricket is supposed to be a gentleman’s game. Peter Ayela KAMPALA
