Advertisers bother job seekers too much!

SIR — Each time I read job advertisements, I notice the conditions attached to them which I regard as unnecessary hurdles in the path of job seekers. These are: certified copies of documents and letters of references.

SIR — Each time I read job advertisements, I notice the conditions attached to them which I regard as unnecessary hurdles in the path of job seekers. These are: certified copies of documents and letters of references.

I consider them unnecessary because this is the first stage of soliciting applications. About 90 per cent or more of those who express interest will not go beyond that stage. However, 100 per cent would have been subjected to the rigours of seeking out busy former professors and supervisors.

Imagine the inconvenience of hundreds of applicants looking for the same people! With the traditional manual processes like those at Makerere University where one needs a whole week to certify a document especially if one is from upcountry, this is a daunting task.

It is even more difficult if the applicant had his or her education outside the country.
I strongly believe the 10 per cent or less who would be shortlisted should be the ones required to produce those documents.
Please, save the job seekers’ energy and expenses for them to try again next time.
