THE Gulu district reconciliation and peace team and the Concern Parents Association have received sh2.16b for child protection and education projects in the north.
The Swedish International Development Agency channelled the aid through Save the Children Uganda. This was revealed by the Gulu manager of Save the Children, Gabriel Oling Olang, on Wednesday.
He was handing over a vehicle worth sh73m to Concern Parents Association for the implementation of the projects in the district.
Olang said part of the money would be used to educate children in Pader district. The district child protection coordinator, Joseph Kilama, urged charities to address the problem of street children.
“We never had street kids before but today, they are over 60. Some of them have guns, while others have cocaine.â€
The chairperson of Concern Parents Association, Norah Phoebe Okello, said the vehicle would help them speed up the implementation of the project in Gulu and Amuru districts.
“You are a mother to Concern Parents because you are close to us and see what we do, unlike other donors who rely on our report only,†she said.
The project coordinator, Immaculate Akongo, noted that the donation would facilitate their movement, especially to internally displaced people’s camps in northern Uganda.
