‘Do not bribe policemen’

KAMPALA-A senior Police officer has warned people who offer bribes to Police officials. Steven Kasiima, an acting commissioner for traffic, said such people will be prosecuted for bribery, adding that even the officers would be arrested. “Society is the root cause of corruption in the Police. If we are to wage war on corruption we must also wage war on society because they are the very people who offer these bribes to our officers,” he said on Wednesday during a public debate on road safety. “If society is corrupt, do not expect Police to be clean because Police is part and parcel of the society,” Kasiima noted.

Nuns trained in leadership

KAMPALA-Several nuns have been equipped with skills in leadership and strategic planning. The training, attended by about 20 mother superiors, ended last Thursday at Nsambya. The workshop coordinator, the Rev. Sr. Jacinta Anzoyo, said the participants would pass on the skills to members of their respective congregations. “The world is developing so fast. We cannot afford to remain behind. We need to equip ourselves with skills in leadership and management, in order to run the daily affairs of our religious institutes efficiently,” Sr. Anzoyo said.

Former street kids graduate

KAMPALA-Over 150 former street children graduated on Friday after being rehabilitated and trained in vocational skills by Friends of Children Association, a charity. “As a way of empowering these youths economically and making them self reliant, we trained them in motorcycle mechanics, motor mechanics, hairdressing, tailoring, carpentry, and welding for a period of one year,” said Namara Sabakaki, the charity’s programme manager, at the mayor’s gardens. The children were mainly picked from the slums of Katwe, Kisenyi, Kasubi in Kampala and Ggulu ward in Mukono district. She thanked the other partners like Solidarity Foundation and the World Food programme.
