Why intrude into private conversations?

SIR — I write out of dismay because some phone companies in Uganda are hacking into our private conversations. When we ring our elderly parents to send them help from overseas or just talk about family affairs, like land issues, it is disheartening to find that the phones are interfered with!

Some of those who listen to our conversations go to the Western Union and receive the money that is sent to ageing parents for their upkeep. This is a gross violation of human rights. It is also unprofessional. Why interfere with the conversations of private citizens, some of whom are actually apolitical?

The people who pretend to look for criminals might be the actual criminals disguised as some serious people! Name withheld
