UGANDA is to benefit from part of the £3m (sh10) that has been invested to boost research in 25 Sub-Saharan countries.

Steven Kisingiri, the head of the British Council Education Services, said this recently while opening a four-day workshop at Makerere University School of Public Health in Mulago.

“The British government is interested in capacity building through training expertise to ensure that quality research is produced among Sub-Saharan countries,” Kisingiri said.

He said the Department of International Development through the British Council had released the funds with the aim of creating a greater impact to the community through better research reports that can easily attract funding for development.

“This is an initiation by the UK government to help in capacity building in institutions especially in the health sector,” he said.

Over 16 participants from Mbarara and Kyambogo universities are attending the training, organised by Makerere University school of Public Health in conjunction with London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
