Trader eyes LUWEERO — A US-based Ugandan businessman, Philip Mwesigwa aligaweesa, has joined the Katikamu North parliamentary race, vowing to unseat Lt. James Kinobe. Kampala engineer Abraham Byandaala beat Kinobe to contest on the NRM ticket.

708 to vie
MUKONO — A total of 708 political parties’ and independent candidates were nominated to contest as LC3 chairpersons and councillors in the district. The battle for the posts in the 28 sub-counties, including four town councils, is between NRM and DP loyalists. Mukono community centre hall was filled beyond capacity with supporters singing in praise of their candidates.

‘No package’
LUWEERO — Over 200 district employees who were retrenched under the on-going civil service restructuring exercise, are crying foul after they failed to receive their retrenchment packages since June.

DP calls
MASAKA district Democratic Party (DP) leaders have asked the Electoral Commission to disqualify DP members who opted to stand on individual merit for using party symbols. At a press conference at Agripa Hotel on wednesday, Masaka DP chairman Ben Bukenya said Godfrey Kayemba registered as an independent candidate vying for the Katwe-Butego Division seat using DP symbols.

Cop charged
A policeman attached to Wandegeya Police station, who allegedly shot dead a man, was on Friday charged with negligence. Prosecution said vincent Maviiri committed the offence on October 19.

2 to vie
TWO people were on Thursday nominated to contest for Kawempe division chairmanship. They are Nasser Kibirige Takuba (DP) and Tom Kasenge (NRM).
