CRANES forward Geoffrey Massa is scheduled to sign a lucrative three-year deal after excelling in his four trial matches with Egyptian club El Masry in Cairo.

“We are happy they decided to keep him and we will be negotiating a transfer fee of between $10000 and $15000,” Police head coach Asumani Lubowa disclosed yesterday.

Sadly though, first division outfit Al Gona was forced to call off Martin Muwanga’s deal when the burly striker failed to meet the side’s stringent fitness standards. Muwanga returned to the country early this week.

Muwanga had also last year been on the verge of joining Ethiopian side St. George and Danish club Randers, before both moves broke down on fitness grounds.

“It will probably remind him of how to start taking professional football seriously because this is the third time he is failing. He will join us and support our cause this season until he gets another chance,” added Lubowa.

El Masry head coach Mohammad Salah intends to deploy Massa alongside veteran striker Hossam Hassan as the club strives to secure silverware this season.
Police, who lifted last year’s City Tyres Super League title after edging SC Villa 4-3 on penalties, were drawn against Sudan outfit Al Hilal in the African Champions League.

r Striker Amine Ltifi came on as a substitute to score a debut winner as Tunisia beat Libya 1-0 on Thursday in a warm-up for the African Nations Cup.

Ltifi, the Tunisian championship’s top scorer this season, broke the deadlock in the 73rd minute at Rades after taking over from Haykel Guemamdia at halftime.

Ltifi was a surprise call-up to Tunisia’s squad for the Nations Cup, which Egypt will be hosting from January 20 to February 10.

Libya, who have now gone 11 games without a win and play Egypt in the tournament opener, host Sudan in Tripoli on January 15 and Tunisia will play Ghana at Rades the same day.
